Hair Extension Care Guide: Keeping Your Investment Beautiful
Congratulations on your new hair! Whether you've chosen hand-tied wefts or tape-ins, you've made an investment in your confidence. At Altitude Salon by Linda, we want your extensions to look as flawless weeks from now as they do today. Living in Alpharetta means dealing with humidity and active lifestyles, so your care routine is essential.
The Daily Ritual
Consistency is the secret to longevity. Incorporating these simple steps into your morning and evening routine will prevent tangling and keep your cuticles smooth.
Morning Routine
Brush Gently
Hold the base and brush from ends up to prevent tension.
UV Protection
Apply a UV protectant oil before stepping out into the sun.
Style Safely
Keep heat tools away from tape or bead attachment points.
Night Routine
Detangle First
Remove all tangles accumulated during the day before bed.
Hydrate Ends
Apply a lightweight serum to ends to lock in moisture.
Low Braid
Secure hair in a loose low braid to prevent friction.
Washing & Styling
Hydration is Key: Since extensions don't receive natural oils from your scalp, they can become dry easily. Always use a sulfate-free, paraben-free shampoo and a moisturizing conditioner (mid-shafts to ends only!).
Heat Protection: Heat is the enemy of hair color. Always use a heat protectant before blow-drying or using hot tools, and keep your iron below 350°F.
★ Pro Tip
"Never sleep with wet hair. Wet hair is weak hair, and sleeping on damp extensions is the fastest way to cause matting at the root."

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions we get at the salon.
Q. How often should I wash my extensions?
We recommend washing 1-2 times per week. Washing too frequently can dry out the hair, while washing too infrequently can cause product buildup. Use dry shampoo in between washes if needed.
Q. Can I swim with my extensions?
Yes, but with caution! Chlorine and salt water can be drying and may discolor blonde extensions. We recommend wetting your hair with fresh water and applying a leave-in conditioner before swimming to create a barrier. Always braid your hair tightly to prevent tangling.
Q. Why are my extensions shedding?
Some shedding is normal, just like your natural hair. However, if you notice excessive shedding, it might be due to brushing too roughly or cutting the wefts (for hand-tied extensions). If you are concerned, contact Linda at the salon.
Q. Can I use purple shampoo?
Yes, but proceed with caution. Extensions are more porous than natural hair and can absorb pigment quickly, turning them patchy or violet. Dilute the shampoo with water or regular shampoo and watch it closely. Never apply it directly to the bonds.
Need a Maintenance Appointment?
To keep your natural hair healthy, move-ups are recommended every 6-8 weeks. Visit us in Alpharetta for a check-up.
